Firegrove Manor (yateley) is a man made lake about 200 years old. This small picturesque estate lake has it’s banks lined with purple rhododendrons in the summer and the water surface blossoms with a carpet of yellow lilies. This attractive fishery is located at Up Green, approx 1.5 miles west of yateley.

Approach: from Yateley town centre, take the b3272 (reading Road) and travel west for about 1.5 miles towards Eversley. When you pass the signpost for the Water Sports Centre, continue approx 300 yards before turning left into Marsh Lane. Follow the road for approx 0.5 miles until the road bends sharply to the right. Take a left turn where the junction forms a triangle and a left again into Firgrove Road.

Approach: From Hartley Wintney take the A30 London Road east towards Blackbush. Turn left onton the A 327 sign posted to Eversley, follow this road for approx 500 yards then turn right on to Coopers Hill, sign posted to Up Green. Follow this road until you pass Up Green Farm on your left, taking the next right in to Firgrove Road.

Parking: The car park for the fishery is the lay-by opposite the Manor House about 100 yards uphill.

The oval lake is quite shallow, has 24 pegs and 2 islands. The far end of the lake is where the deeper water lies averaging 6ft. For Carp, legered boilies in the deep water does well, with surface baits also picking up fish in the warmer months. Pole or waggler, using maggot, chopped worm and caster are good for abundant silver fish. Worms prove a good tactic for Perch especially around the waterside rhododendron bushes.

Access The lake is around 150 yards from the car park. Cross the road and enter via the right hand side entrance with the paddock on your left. Walk towards the stables turning right down a small path before the gate, the lake is approx 60 yards down this path.

All banks around the lake may be fished, please remember the owner uses the left hand bank to move horses to and from the fields. Please keep your tackle near to you when fishing here. The path goes right around the lake and is suitable for trolleys and barrows.

Fishing: Firgrove lake is a good all round mixed fishery including common and mirror card to 25lb, Bream to 5lb, Crucians to 2lb and good Tench and Perch. The average depth is around 5-6ft in the middle of the lake between the two islands and varies from around 2-3ft in the margins.   The Carp are very old, although the average size is not of great size fish up to 25lb have been caught. This venue is ideally suited to the float angler and good catches of mixed fish are made each season using baits such as maggots, casters, pellets corn, bread and meat. The bream respond well to ground bait in the feeder in the open water swims with fruit flavoured baits scoring well with the better specimens. Dawn and dusk sessions are best in the summer for catching crucian carp, using light float tackle in the margins next to the lilies. Whilst the lake does fish all round, the best catches are coming from the roadside bank and along the outlet bank with the brick wall.

Special Notes:            No Night Fishing

                                    Members Only (no day tickets)

Do not fish in the middle of the lilies.
